Surveillance of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) is a system designed to monitor HAIs within a hospital, with the primary aim of reducing the HAI risk within hospitals. The cycle of HAI surveillance includes the stages of ‘data collection—data analysis—data interpretation—data dissemination’.
The main purpose
of HAI (Hospital-Acquired Infection) surveillance is to determine the
baseline infection or endemic infection rates and understand the types of
infections occurring in the hospital and healthcare. It also helps in comparing
infection rates across different wards, ICUs, OT, units, or even with
other healthcare facilities to identify variations. Through this process,
problem areas can be detected, and a root cause analysis can be conducted to
identify gaps in infection control practices.
Surveillance
play very important role and further assists in the early detection of
potential outbreaks so that timely action can be taken to control them. It also
enables the hospital to monitor and assess the effectiveness of infection
control interventions over time. Regular feedback provided to clinicians
encourages adherence to best practices in patient care. It's maintaining such
surveillance supports compliance with the standards and requirements of
accreditation bodies such as the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and
Healthcare Providers (NABH).

Associated Infection Targeted in Hospitals for Surveillance.
Surveillance
is a importent technique for identifying infections in the hospital. Surveillance
very important technics identification infection in the Hospital. There are
surveillance is done forthe following major HAI in the hospital.
1. CAUTI- Catheter-Associated Urinary
Tract Infection
2. CLABSI- Central
Line Associated Blood Stream Infection.
3. VAP- Ventilator
Associated Pneumonia.
4. SSI- Surgical Site
Infection

developed areas.
